Assessment Bot Version 09/11/2023 Released
We're excited to announce a new version of Assessment Bot - version 09/11/2023. It's been slightly later than planned thanks to the updates that OpenAI announced earlier this week, but the delay has been very worthwhile.
Key updates:
Re-designed student feedback sheet
More precise feedback given.
Improvement in marking performance, especially with large classes
A whole range of bug fixes and small tweaks to improve performance and reduce errors.
Redesigned Feedback Sheets
The student feedback documents have been significantly redesigned to make them earlier to read and to look prettier. Now, the mark scheme and model answer section are side by side to minimise the amount of scrolling students need to do. Questions are clearly separated and set up to avoid splitting over two pages, as far as possible, and the colour scheme and type setting has been made consistent with the rest of Assessment Bot.
More precise feedback
The latest version of ChatGPT 3.5 is, according to Open AI, 35% better at following instructions. In my testing so far, this seems accurate with the feedback generated being consistently more precise and accurate.
Improved marking performance
With these new updates, I have been able to increase the number of questions submitted to OpenAI simultaneously which means that marking should happen around 50% faster than before.
Small improvements
When a new sheet is created, the old ones are now copied before a new one is created so you won't lose anything accidentally.
You will now be prompted give any necessary information before a step is required. This will avoid frustratingly inaccurate marking if you forget to type in the mark scheme, and strange errors if you forget to set up your Google Classroom details.
I've removed some overly technical options that add little value to the overall product, allowing you to focus on the parts that matter.
Bug fixes
No more errors if Google Sheets is unable to calculate the mode.
Conditional formatting for the unanswered questions count finally works properly.
Incorrect calculation of scores and percentages is now fixed if you set up your Google Form as a quiz.
And many more.
